UCHS imposes Standard Operating Procedure
The University of Cebu High School students are expected to follow the following SOP(Standard Operating Procedure).
CLASSROOM SITUATION:
A. When a student comes in late he/she shall:
1. Stays near the door with his back against the door
2. He/she waits for the teacher to acknowledge his/her presence
3. Student will say “ Good morning/afternoon mam/sir; I’m sorry. I am
late my I come in?
4. Teacher acknowledges by nodding
5. The student(s) passes quietly to his designated seat
once seated the student gives his/her full attention to the teachers
discussion/class activity(in case a teacher is not around, the
student does the same (step 1-4) to whosoever is in-charge)
B. Prescribed Student Behavior Inside the Library/Laboratory
1. Stand up properly and face the teacher with their hand on their
side and nod their head as they greet the teacher …“ Good
Morning/Afternoon (name of the teacher)”
2. Remain standing as the teacher roam around and does routinary
inspection such as haircut, ID, uniforms, attendance, etc.
the teacher acknowledges by saying “Good Morning/Afternoon class,
you may now take your seats”.
3. Take their seats altogether quietly without dragging their chairs
after saying “Thank you Ms./Sir”
C. Student – Teacher Interaction
(The students are expected to observe and give full attention
throughout the given period.)
1. The student raises his /her hand every time he/she wants to
answer a question or wishes to be clarified.
2. (Note: Teacher should never call or acknowledge who does not
follow the standard set)
3. If student wishes to share or wants to be clarified he/she says the
following:
Mam/Sir can/may I ask for something
Can/May I ask for further explanation ….
Can/May I share my ideas …
Can/May I give my own point of view …
4. In case a teacher does random questioning and the student does
not know the answer he/she should say:
I’m sorry Miss/Madame/Sir I don’t know the answer ….
The teacher signals the students to sit down and calls another one.
5. The students must refrain from answering in chorus.
6. Once the interaction/discussion is going-on no one is allowed to go
out or roam around inside the classroom
7. When a student happens to give a wrong answer, they should
respect by not laughing, teasing and the like
(note: teacher should discourage teasing, laughing, yelling, howling,
unnecessary clapping, whistling, etc.)
D. End of Period Activity
1. The teacher gives instruction/reminders for the next meeting (e.g.
test, projects, assignment)
2. Teachers ends by letting his/her students stand and say,
“Everybody stand” (the teacher possess and give instructions to
students to arrange their chairs.
3. Once everything is in order the teacher say: “Goodbye class, see
you tomorrow”
4. Students will answer “Goodbye and thank you Miss/Madam/Sir, see
you tomorrow”
E. Presence of a visitor
1. The teacher acknowledges by saying:
2. Class, we have a visitor, “Please stand”
3. Class let us acknowledge the presence of (state name of the
visitor)
4. The students stand and greet appropriately with due respect,
“Good Morning/Afternoon (state the name of the visitor)
5. The students will never sit down unless they are being told to sit
down by the visitor.
6. The student responds by saying “Thank you (state name of the
visitor)
7. Once seated, the students are to give their full attention to the
visitor.
8. Upon leaving the students are automatically stand and say,
“Goodbye and thank you Miss/Madame/Sir.
F. Dismissal Time
1. The teacher gives instruction/reminders for the next meeting (e.g.
test, projects, assignment)
2. Teacher ends by letting his/her students stand upon his/her
instruction and directs them to arrange their chairs.
3. Once everything is in order the class says their afternoon prayer:
4. After the prayer they bid goodbye to their teacher and their
classmates
5. They move out quietly by column.
Prescribed Student Behavior Along the Corridors
1. Everyone must keep right at all times while walking along the
corridors.
2. In case of emergency, students must clear the corridor to give way
to those concerned.
3. When going out in batches (e.g. dismissal, going to laboratory/avr
/library, etc.) students are expected to move out quietly preferably
in two lines.
4. In case a student/s need to “overtake” a teacher/s, he/she has to
acknowledge by saying “I’ll go ahead Ma’am/Sir” and proceeds to
go ahead.
5. Running, shouting and loitering are strictly prohibited
6. Avoid loud talking, shouting, yelling when passing through the
corridors
7. Upon meeting a guest or a teacher the student/s pause/s, bows or
nods and greet/s him/her
8. Use of cellular phone while walking along corridors is strictly
prohibited
9. Each one must help maintain the cleanliness of the corridors by
disposing of trash properly
10. Whenever a student meets a teacher carrying heavy things,
he/she must offer help/assistance to the teacher.
11. Discussion/group activities, are not allowed along
the corridor except during PE classes
H. Office Etiquette
1. Students must knock before entering any office and opens the door
slowly.
2. Upon entering the students must give proper courtesy (“Good
Morning/Afternoon”), introduce himself/herself and explain his/her
purpose in either English or Filipino.
3. In case there is no one in the office the student must leave, go
back to his/her class and come back another time.
4. In case the person whom the students intends to see is busy,
5. He/She must wait patiently for his/her turn and seat himself/herself
in the waiting area instead of roaming around or, browsing through
office documents.
6. While waiting inside the office, the students must avoid talking or
making unnecessary noise
7. When the student approaches the table of the person he/she
intends to see, he/she must not sit down until invited to do so.
8. The use of cellular phone is not allowed.
9. Once the purpose is accomplished, the student must leave the
office quietly.
10. Upon leaving the office, the students must say “Thank You
Ma’am/Sir” and closes the door slowly.
I. Prescribed Student Behavior Inside the Library/Laboratory
1. Students must observe silence while inside the library/laboratory.
Loud talking, singing, laughing are prohibited.
2. While inside the library:
- Students are expected to use and return books properly to their
designated areas especially newspapers, magazines, and books
which are for library use only;
-Students are prohibited to detached, write on, highlight, and fold
any page of books, magazines, newspaper inside the library (any
willful damage done to library property is punishable byexpulsion);
- Students must fill up the book card and
- Submit both the book and the library index card to the librarian/in-charge, when borrowing books;
students must wait patiently and quietly in case there is a queue(line) of students borrowing books.
3.While inside the laboratory:
- Students are allowed to enter the laboratory upon the teacher’s instruction and only when the teacher is already inside the laboratory;
- Students must wait for the teacher’s instruction before handling
or using any of the laboratory apparatuses, equipments,
chemicals, or any devices to avoid accidents/damages;
- Students must use all laboratory apparatuses, equipments or any
device must with utmost care and diligence.
- Students must return all borrowed laboratory apparatuses,
equipments or any devices properly;
- Students must clean their work places after every activity or
experiment;
- Students must leave the laboratory in an orderly manner and only
upon the instruction of the teacher (note: teacher should be the
last person to leave the workplace).
4. Eating, drinking, and use of cellular phone are strictly prohibited.
J. Expected Behavior in Comfort Room
1. Student must knock the cubicle door before opening to ensure that
no one is using.
2. Student must flush the toilet bowl after using.
3. Student must throw their tissue paper/napkins in the trash can
instead of flushing it to avoid clogging.
4. Student must use a dipper/pail of water to flush the toilet bowl in
case the flushing system is defective.
5. Student must not write anything on the cubicle walls, or in any part
of toilet. (Vandalism is punishable by expulsion).
6. Student must wash their hands at the lavatory after using the
toilet.
Teachers and students should work hand- in hand in order to achieve the goal of this SOP.
