Juicy Inter- School Dance Competition 2011
It’s been awhile since the last time I blog. I been busy preparing for the dance contest called ” Juicy Inter – School Dance Competition”. It was held last September 25, 2011 at Emall Activity Center. Our high school students was one of the finalists of the said event.
During the solidarity time, where all the participant meet, I was so nervous for our competitors are very tough. They had huge backdrop, lots of props, their costume are awesome. Our student wore a very simple violet dance club t -shirt and gray pedal harlem. As the competition started, I instructed them to change. It was totally transformed. The girls wore red dance club t -shirt with black inner spaghetti shirt, black baggy harlem and red arm warmer while the boys wore black DC shirt, black baggy harlem, red cap and red arm warmer.
From the start of the dance, they wore gray sweat shirt except Jubert, for he wore red. At the beginning of their dance, students were shouting. In every transition of the music, they still shout. Their shouting and yelling helps the dancers boosts their confidence and level up their energy as they perform.
As the result were announced, I couldn’t breath. As it was finally announced, ” The GRAND CHAMPION of JUICY DANCE COMPETITION (CEBU)……
UNIVERSITY OF CEBU!. As it announced as UNIVERSITY, (for we are the only university who joined the said competition) I prayed to the LORD and give HIM thanks!
In behalf of the UCHS Dance Troupe, we would like to give thanks to Atty. Agusto W. Go, Ms. Candice Gotuinuy, Dr. Ulysses Aparece, Engr.Son, Dr, Mary Pluryle Bucol, Mrs. Norma Oplada, Mrs. Janet Labrado, Mrs. Elvinia Cañete, MAPEH TEACHERS, All High School Faculty and Staff, Parents, Students and Above all, to our ALMIGHTY FATHER!

31st National Folk Dance Workshop for Teachers
I am excited to attend this dance workshop. Our school, University of Cebu already set a budget for this event. This may be chance for me to be updated with our own dances and those unpublished dances.
The National Folk Dance Workshop will be on May 16 – 20, 2011 at Bago City, Negros Occidental. As I read the memo through the use of internet, I immediately wrote a letter to our school head. It was fortunately approved by our Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ulysses Aparece.
Here is the statement about the up coming seminar.

Sky Watch Friday
This was taken last February 19,2009 around 6:25p.m. I took this after my class which was held at the 7th floor of University of Cebu
University of Cebu Teambuilding
The University of Cebu High School Department had a team building at El Salvador, one of the resorts in Danao, Cebu. It was participated by faculty members. In our department, I was assigned to make a “kinilaw”. So, I woke up early and rushed to Pasil, a seaport in Cebu City. Then, I prepared the kinilaw. The assembly time was 7:30 to 8:00 am, I was almost late. The second bus was about to depart. Good thing that my co-teacher Abcill called me as to where I am. I told her that I was almost near at the school. To cut the story short, we reached the venue safe and sound.
Before the program started, we eat the foods that we had prepared. I was upset with my kinilaw whether they will like it. But it turn out that everyone who tried it gives positive response. Then suddenly, the program has started headed by our administrative assistant Mam Norma Oplado. Part of the program was the team building activity. The Mapeh Department was assigned in facilitating the activity. Before I join the rest of the group, I changed my attire for it was too hot. I wore a white short. My gluteus minimus was almost seen most especially when I bend. A cellulite cure is what I need. But that moment, I didn’t care what I wear for all I want is to feel comfortable. Nevertheless, the game was so fun and all of us enjoyed it.
UbD: Understanding by Design
We are currently formulating our UbD (Understanding by Design). This UbD is a new curriculum mandated by the DepEd (Department of Education) to be implemented to all first year level of this year. Last summer, teachers attended the UbD seminars. I wasn’t able to attend the said seminars for some reasons. One, I attended the Cebu Blog Camp and second I woke up late and I decided not to attend for I have to judge a Super Show Mom Contest. ( an irresponsible teacher huh!)
Now, I have to catch up what i had missed during my absence. As I google the word Ubd, I was amazed that foreign countries adapted this curriculum since 2003 or earlier. Some had already has its reversion. But here in our country Philippines, it sounds Greek to us. Every now and then, the education system as its ever changing the curriculum. It is just the same with eating other set of foods without chewing the previous one. Last year, we applied the PBL or problem- based learning. Still it is Greek to us. This PBL was implemented in all levels in our school. But in other school, they used this PBL starting in first year level , followed by the 2nd year level, 3rd and 4th year. So this means that the school adapted the PBL gradually. The situation in our school was, we implemented the PBL to all levels in the same year. What an agony?!
Then, here comes UbD. Well, I just hope that teachers will still have time to teach the students not spending much time in formulating the UbD.
