Deception

I went yesterday to the hospital at South General located at Naga, Cebu. My mother was confined since Saturday, May 1, 2010. As I went home, I passed through a store which sells different kinds of Korean bags, shoes, t-shirts and more. In our country, this store is called “Ukayan”. I am so much engrossed with the violet bag that I choose. Suddenly, young men approach me and sell a gold necklace. I was curious its form, so I scrutinized it and I found an engraved “18K”. I asked them, where they get it and how they get it.  They just simply replied that they just found it somewhere. I even told them, that there might be someone with them. They strongly said no it was just us. So, I place it in my pocket while I still look at the bags. The boys are stays beside me. Suddenly, I felt scared when I observed a woman who was pointing to someone and she was nagging. I thought that I was being talked. So, I approach the near the woman, and thanks God they were talking other people. I went out the store and transfer to another store where I buy something. The boys are still accompanying me. So, I decided to ride on a jeepney.  They were asking “where we were heading?” I said, just go with me. Then, I looked again the necklaces. I told them, I will just buy one because I don’t have enough money.

Finally, I realized why not try to appraise the necklaces. I pay their fare and we disembark at Tungkil, Minglanilla. I told them to stay at the bakery but they didn’t listen. I headed to the Cebuana Lhullier and hand in the necklaces. The woman asked me if I pawned it and I said no. Then, suddenly she told me that it is just nothing. I returned the necklaces to the boys and simply said to them that I will not buy it.

That incident made me realized that at my age I still didn’t recognize the difference between a pure gold from fake gold. Another realization is that it is better to be calm so you can think the right thing to do. I really can compare now, I am more cautious and vigilant to my actions.
