Teacher and a Mother

I knew some of my blogger friends know that I am a teacher. Being a teacher is not an easy job. Just observe a woman working in the office and a woman working as an educator. How can you spot the difference? Precisely by looking her physically. The way she dress up, act, talk and most commonly, she always bring two to three bags. Why? For it contains some papers to be checked, lesson plans, visual aids, other things needed in the class. She’s hoping that she could still work at home. I used to do this when I am still single. I have lots of time checking papers, making my visual aids, doing some research, pursuing my masters degree. But now, it was totally different for I have my own family. Having a family, changes some of my routine. I seldom bring any paper works at home for I wanted to spend the time with my baby. Having a baby is really a great challenge to all teachers. Why do I say this, for sometimes I felt guilty working hard as a teacher teaching students, talking to them almost 8 hours but I only have almost 1 to 2 hours at most being with my own child. Just recently my weekend is also loaded with activities in school, such as dance club, playground demonstration, production meeting for sayawit, production meeting for Sinulog, and group dance practice. However, no matter how busy I am. I always see to it that I could spend time with my love ones especially on Sunday. I am guilty of not acting a 100% wife and mother. In this manner, I wanted to spend time with them this coming semestral break. I wanted to be with Crash and Chloe with out thinking of any school activities and paper works. How I wish that Crash will surprise me to a Branson vacation or any places as long as we are together.

Sometimes, I even think about quitting my job so I could be a full time mom and wife but I can’t also stand staying at home for whole day without mingling and be with other people. As of now, I’m praying that God will give me time for everything, that I may be able to organize my activities without compromising my child, Chloe.

Breast feeding, is it important?

I gave an activity to my students last month about breastfeeding and bottle feeding. I let them interview their mother whether they were given a breast milk or formulated milk, how important breastfeeding and they will describe their relationship with their mother. I am surprise with their answers. Some of them were bottle feed while others were breast feed. In terms of relationship, it is really true that there is strong attachment of mother and child relationship. They were very close and how healthy they were. They were free from sickness and they achieve academically. Those students who were bottle feed reveals that they were not close to their mom, they got sick often.

I can’t imagine how will be my relationship with my baby. But I do believe no matter the baby is bottle feed or breastfeed, it will depend on how she was raised by her parents and the influence of her environment. For now, let us just cross the bridge when we get there.

Loves to cook

I admit. I really loves cooking. I usually invent my own recipe and some I call it just the way I wanted to call it. This is one of my revelations, I don’t like to work certain things if my materials are not complete like lacking of ingredients, utensils, kitchen ware. Thus, this made me procrastinator if I plan to cook something. When I start cooking, I usually clean as I go. Sad to note that the sink that I have in our home is not that presentable for it was just made of tiles but I see to it that is clean but not as clean as Kohler kitchen sink.I wanted to include this in my bucket list. If time comes when we are ready to have our own house, I wanted to have this kind of sink.

A reward to himself

Last Saturday, we went to istore at SM Cebu to buy an ipods. However, our budget is not enough for two ipods. So, we just buy one. My hubby reward himself as he buys an ipod touch. He bought this through his online earnings. He worked as full time application programmer and a part-time web developer. He used to convert psd to wordpress. He really works hard just to provide us our needs. He had lots of sleepless night for his client are mostly from other countries. I really pitied on him specially if he lacks of rest. I am upset about his health.

When he said he will buy an ipod touch, I totally supports what he wants to buy. I told him that you have also to reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done. He was very happy after he got one. He can’t get away from his ipod. He is not used to take notes and play games but with his new ipod, he is very diligent and curious to use it.

Here is the photo which I took when we buy the ipod .

UbD: Understanding by Design

We are currently formulating our UbD (Understanding by Design). This UbD is a new curriculum mandated by the DepEd (Department of Education) to be implemented to all first year level of this year. Last summer, teachers attended the UbD seminars. I wasn’t able to attend the said seminars for some reasons. One, I attended the Cebu Blog Camp and second I woke up late and I decided not to attend for I have to judge a Super Show Mom Contest. ( an irresponsible teacher huh!)

Now, I have to catch up what i had missed during my absence. As I google the word Ubd, I was amazed that foreign countries adapted this curriculum since 2003 or earlier. Some had already has its reversion. But here in our country Philippines, it sounds Greek to us. Every now and then, the education system as its ever changing the curriculum. It is just the same with eating other set of foods without chewing the previous one. Last year, we applied the PBL or problem- based learning. Still it is Greek to us. This PBL was implemented in all levels in our school. But in other school, they used this PBL starting in first year level , followed by the 2nd year level, 3rd and 4th year. So this means that the school adapted the PBL gradually. The situation in our school was, we implemented the PBL to all levels in the same year. What an agony?!

Then, here comes UbD. Well, I just hope that teachers will still have time to teach the students not spending much time in formulating the UbD.
